Electric Adjustable Profiling Beds: Comfort & Posture Support
An electric profiling bed lets you raise the head, back, knees and feet at the touch of a button, making it easier to sit up, get in and out of bed, and find a comfortable position. Height-adjustable models also help carers.

How profiling works
| Section | What it helps with |
|---|---|
| Head and back | Sitting up to read, eat or breathe more easily |
| Knee | Reducing slipping down the bed and easing back pain |
| Foot / leg | Raising legs to help with swelling and circulation |
| Height adjustment | Easier transfers and safer care at a comfortable working height |
Beds are often described by how many sections they have, such as four-section or five-fold. More sections give finer control over position.
Choosing a mattress
- Use a mattress designed to flex with a profiling base.
- Memory foam: moulds to the body and spreads pressure.
- Pocket spring (flexible): a more traditional feel with good airflow.
- For pressure-ulcer risk, ask a healthcare professional about specialist mattresses.
